Support Christian programmes on BCFM this Easter Sunday
We have been offered a unique opportunity to air 12 hours of
Christian programmes on local radio in Bristol on Easter Sunday. We would very much like your support
and prayers and if you could find a pound or two, it would be great if you
could sponsor some air time.
What is BCFM?
BCFM is your local community radio station – Bristol
Community fm. You can find it on
93.2fm or listen through the website http://www.bcfm.org.uk/.
It is run by volunteers and aims to represent the various communities in
Bristol.
Are there
religious/Christian shows on BCFM already?
There are currently 3 Christian shows each week. The first is Face to Faith, a two hour award
winning magazine programme on Mondays at 3pm, the second is called ÒLet the
Bible SpeakÓ which is a Presbyterian production. Also on Sunday evening, there is a contemporary Christian music
(CCM) programme from 9pm – 10pm. This show plays up-to-date Christian music, features the Christian
contemporary music chart, as well as interviews with bands and notices
regarding local church events.
What
programmes will be aired on Easter Sunday?
A wide variety of shows will be aired including: a Soul show
from our friends Mel and Carmen from Ujima Radio, Electronic
worship with DJ Bragg , Easter day Church services from a couple of churches
around Bristol and shows presenting local initiatives. There will also be
prayers, thoughts and drama around the Easter theme!
How much does
it cost and how are we looking to find the money?
The cost of ÔhiringÕ the air-time is £240. This is £20 per hour. Local Christians are sponsoring airtime
at a rate of 3 minutes of radio time for £1.
This unique opportunity has only recently come up and there
was not enough time to look for grant funding for this. We would look for external
funding if it was felt that there should be more local Christian broadcasting
in the future.
Who is
behind this?
Nick Tarleton is co-ordinating this broadcast. He presents CCM on Sunday evenings and has
years of experience in hospital and local Community radio. A wide-range of people from across
Bristol are involved in putting the shows together and advertising the
broadcast. If the dayÕs broadcast is successful, we hope to get a steering
group together to see how we could take Christian radio forward in Bristol.
